Soon to be expected: "The Magic Lantern of Mr. Furet”
One of the important tasks of the Suriname Museum Foundation is the disclosure of its own collection. For that purpose, the museum will shortly publish ‘The Magic Latern of Mr. Furet’. The only version is housed within the antiquarian library in the annex of the museum. ‘The Magic Lantern…’ was made by W.E.H. Winkels. He drew 18 images of the life of a plantation writer and included his story. This shows an accurate picture of life in Suriname about 1840. To complement the original version of Winkels, Hilde Neus, of the educational department, rewrote the story for the youth. She also researched the plantation writer, to see if Winkels painted a realistic picture of the situation.
